“Chinese medicine was instrumental in my healing. I was so inspired, I decided to train and become a practitioner myself.”

Cassandra Hawthorne (BSc, Lic Ac, MBAcC, CHM Dip) is a founder of Re+Cultivate and a dedicated and highly qualified Chinese medicine practitioner.

As at home in neurological wards and NHS clinics as she is in her treatment studio in southwest London, Cassandra’s mission is to help YOU cultivate better whole-person wellbeing through holistic treatments.

She’s passionate about alternative therapies for menopause and empowering women to better health.

This is her story…

“When I was in my early 20s, I found myself living every day in acute pain.

At 23, I was diagnosed with endometriosis. When I looked for help, the only treatment on offer was a drug that would stop my periods completely. It seemed extreme. But so often, women’s issues are dismissed as something we “just have to put up with”. Whether it’s PMS, menopause or a condition like fibromyalgia that predominantly affects women, the conventional options are limited and disheartening.

I turned to alternative therapies. I discovered Chinese medicine, a plant based diet and supplements… And I committed to adopting a holistic lifestyle.

Before long, I was able to stop taking the medicine prescribed by my doctor and fully regain my health.

Before I founded Re+Cultivate, I spent 15 years working as a stylist in the music industry. I dressed stars like Janet Jackson, and Lauren Hill, and I travelled all over the world. But my own journey with healing was always waiting to unfold.

My mother was a nurse. She had taught me the art of helping others. She also taught me the value of holistic medicine, when I was able to support her through her own challenges with cancer. My grandmother passed her knowledge of natural remedies down to us, and I believe this heritage has an important place in my own process.

I created Re+Cultivate because of the profound positive impact traditional Chinese medicine had on my life. I believe that prevention is better than cure, and that if we can focus on optimum health, instead of reactively correcting problems as they arise, we’re in a much better place.

I studied my degree in Chinese Medicine Acupuncture at the University of Westminster, London. While I was there, I was able to volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospice in London, assisting the Acupuncture Neurological team. I took an NHS work placement at the Gateway Clinic in Kennington, London, where I treated and managed people with back pain, anxiety, phantom limb syndrome and eczema.

Then I studied a postgraduate degree in Advanced Chinese Medicine at the Northern College of Acupuncture. This further enhanced my clinical practice, and really taught me to engage with the world of scientific research.

My final year research project explored the effectiveness of auricular therapy in managing menopausal symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety and hot flashes. It allowed me to combine my clinical expertise with rigorous research methods to produce a valuable contribution to knowledge in my field.

Now, I am a full member of The British Acupuncture Council, and the Federation Of Traditional Chinese Medical Practitioners. This means I am always up-to-date with the latest regulations and research, so I can maintain the highest standards when it comes to your care.

As a practitioner, I’m committed to continually deepening my understanding of the therapeutic relationship between practitioner and patient. This is at the heart of everything I do. I incorporate reflective practice into my daily clinic, so I can strengthen my self-awareness, deepen my knowledge-base and find new approaches to enhance your experience. I’ve found this results in positive and effective patient outcomes.

I have a Level 7 Diploma in Chinese herbal medicine. I’m skilled in multiple styles of acupuncture. I have an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology. I integrate nutrition and lifestyle coaching into my practice. And I have made it my mission to help people around the world create better health and balance, and experience happy, healthy living.

I’m a compassionate human being. Here to listen to you.

I warmly invite you to embark on your journey to feeling the new you. To begin living a life that is vibrant, healthy and radiant.

Just as nature intended you to be.

I know you can do it, and I’m here to help.”
